7 Steps to Becoming a Real Estate Agent in Oklahoma
Wondering how to become a real estate agent in Oklahoma? Follow the 7 steps in our guide on how to become a real estate agent in Oklahoma.
Once you’re ready to become a real estate agent, the next step is obtaining your real estate license. The requirements for real estate licensing vary widely from state to state. Some states require a certain level of education, and/or a certain number of credit hours in real estate coursework before you can take your licensing exam.
1. Enroll in a pre-licensing course.
You must complete a 90-hour pre-license course to become a provisional sales associate. There are either in-person or online options available. Find approved courses here. Upfront costs for coursework, exams, & license can range from $450 to $750.
2. Complete the application for the Oklahoma Real Estate Commission.
You can start the application process here. You will need to submit proof of citizenship and submit a background check.
3. Get your fingerprints taken.
Get your fingerprints processed through IdentoGO. Schedule a live-scan appointment here. The service code to schedule an appointment with IdentoGO is 2B7NR3.
4. Schedule to take the exam.
After your application is approved, you will receive an email message from the Oklahoma Real Estate Commission that includes your Candidate ID information along with contact information to schedule your exam with PSI. To contact PSI directly for scheduling questions, you can call 855-746-8169 or send an email to examschedule@psionline.com.
5. Pass the exam.
If you don’t pass the first time, you may schedule a new exam immediately with no limit to the number of attempts you may take in order to pass the exam.
Applications are valid for one year. If one year has lapsed without a passing score, a new application and background check must be submitted.
6. Apply for your Provisional Sales Associate license.
Within 48 hours of passing your exam, you will receive an automated email message from OREC allowing you to issue your license completely online. Please follow the instructions here in order to issue your license with the Oklahoma Real Estate Commission
7. Choose a real estate brokerage.
Choosing a brokerage can be a little overwhelming as there are many factors to consider. You should always choose a brokerage that is right for you. Evaluate the amount of mentoring and educational opportunities you desire. When you have questions, it is important that you are able to reach your broker when you need them. As a new agent, they should empower you with innovative marketing ideas to help you grow your business. Your commission split should be a factor as well.
